Volunteering

Volunteer Commitment

Volunteers carry out 100% of SCRA activities, making them an integral part of its success. We value and appreciate the personal time and energy that volunteers give to our organization. Volunteers make our program possible, so we strongly encourage our members to support your athlete’s sport by fulfilling your volunteer commitment. Get involved and have some fun supporting your athlete!

  • Volunteer Commitment: SCRA members are required to provide 100 credits (or at least 8 hours) of volunteer time per player, to a maximum of 200 credits per family by April 30 of the current season. Volunteer credit is given to roles that support the operations of the association. See below for current opportunities.

  • Volunteer Opt Out Fee: During the registration process, families can choose to opt out of the SCRA volunteer requirement. The fee for this is $325 per player, to a max of $600 per family. This does not relieve the family of team support roles, such as serving as off-ice officials or other team-level supports.

  • Non-Fulfilment Penalty: Members who do not fulfil the volunteer commitment by April 30 of the current season will be charged a non-fulfilment penalty equivalent to the season’s opt-out fee.

Volunteer Opportunities - SCRA

SCRA is actively seeking passionate individuals to join our leadership team. Volunteers like you play a vital role in ensuring the success and growth of our beloved sport within the community.

We are currently seeking volunteers for the following roles:

Vice President, Development (Board Position)

The VP, Development is a Board role focused on shaping the overall athlete experience at SCRA. This position helps guide long-term athlete development, supports positive learning environments, and ensures our programs align with True Sport principles and Ringette Alberta development frameworks. Working closely with the Coach Director and other Board members, this role supports both player and coach development across the Association. This is a great opportunity for someone passionate about youth sport, development, and contributing at a strategic level.

Evaluations Director

The Evaluations Director leads the planning and oversight of SCRA’s player evaluations from May through team formation in September. This role coordinates logistics, evaluator alignment, scheduling, and evaluation data to ensure the process is fair, consistent, and well-organized for all athletes. Working within a committee-based structure, the Evaluations Director plays a central role in one of the most important and visible processes in the Association. This role is well suited to someone highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable managing a fast-paced process.

Coach Director

The Coach Director supports and develops SCRA’s coaching community, helping ensure coaches feel equipped, supported, and aligned with Association values. This role oversees coach recruitment and selection, coach development initiatives, and ongoing standards and feedback, working closely with the VP, Development. The Coach Director plays a key role in shaping positive, athlete-centred coaching experiences across all divisions and is ideal for someone with coaching experience who enjoys mentoring and community-building.
